Three printed pairs

Cheerios lists 1½cup 39 g. Frosted Flakes lists 1 cup 37 g. Life lists 1 cup 42 g. Each pair belongs to a particular product and panel version. They demonstrate why a universal cereal cup-to-gram conversion is misleading. Rings, flakes and woven squares occupy space differently; we have not measured their packing density or bowl-filling technique.

Do not transfer a ratio

Using Frosted Flakes'37 g cup for Life replaces a printed 42 g reference with another food's value. Using Cheerios'39 g as if it were one cup drops its 1½cup heading. Record household measure and grams in the same field, including the fraction. If an online listing omits grams, leave them unknown until the exact panel is readable.

A practical shopping example

Two boxes may advertise family size and show a cup on the front. Neither the size name nor bowl image establishes comparable mass per bowl. Use declared net-weight ounces for purchase cost and panel serving grams for nutrition interpretation. A pantry target in sealed boxes needs neither cups nor grams. This keeps replenishment from becoming a guessed portion forecast.

What the pair does not establish

A printed serving reference is not a laboratory density measurement extending to crushed cereal or every fractional cup. Our tools show it without generalized volume-to-mass or piece conversion. Preserve the panel and product code for the next purchase. If either changes, confirm a new source rather than extrapolate a precise physical measurement from an old label.

When a cup is missing

A seller may show only39g and an approximate bowl image. That does not prove the household measure is one cup. Conversely,a text summary saying one serving without grams cannot support a cross-product mass comparison. Keep the missing field unknown and open the full panel. For the selected Cheerios image, the fraction1½is part of the actual record and should survive every spreadsheet or shopping-note transfer.
