Start with cereal alone

The selected dry servings show Cheerios 140 calories per 39 g, Frosted Flakes 130 per 37 g and Life 160 per 42 g. These are printed serving records, not equal-mass nutrition tests. A lower number can partly reflect a smaller gram serving. Do not call a cereal lower calorie for all bowls by comparing its printed serving against another product's larger serving.

Prepared conditions differ

Cheerios shows 210 calories with¾cup skim milk. Frosted Flakes shows 200 with¾cup skim milk. Life shows 210 with⅔cup vitamin A and D fortified skim milk. Because the milk amounts differ, these are not one standardized recipe. The printed additions also are not directions requiring a household to use that milk or quantity.

Avoid a mixed-column comparison

Copying Life's prepared 210 beside Frosted Flakes' dry 130 suggests an 80 calorie gap while combining different conditions. First mark the column headings, then transfer only dry rows to the dry comparison. A pictured bowl is not a measured recipe. If you need to understand your own meal, use the actual separately labeled ingredients and appropriate guidance rather than an assumed milk addition.

Use the limit productively

Our finder returns exact conditions and refuses an arbitrary milk conversion. It does not calculate a child serving, weight-loss allowance, diabetes meal or personal energy target. For shopping, select the intended package, save both headings if useful, and confirm them on receipt. A changed version gets a separate record rather than silently replacing an old prepared condition.

Do not standardize milk by subtraction

Subtracting dry calories from a prepared column can describe the difference between those printed rounded figures, but it is not a reusable nutrition specification for all milk. The Life reference uses a different quantity and named fortification condition. We therefore display its source condition rather than generate a universal milk add-on or multiply that difference for arbitrary cup fractions. Use the actual beverage label for a different ingredient.
